My grandfather handed me my first film camera when I was small enough to trip over a lens cap, and that was more or less that. Fifteen years on, what began as a childhood habit is a career I still cannot quite believe I get to have. Thanks, Gramps.

I shoot film alongside digital, which is where the softness and the staying power come from. What I am really after is the in-between: the stolen glance, the unplanned dance move, the long hug from grandma. The formals matter and I will get every one of them, but those are rarely the frames you end up living with.

I take a limited number of weddings each year on purpose. It means I can stay with a couple through the whole of the planning, turn galleries around properly, and edit every frame with the care you would give something you intend to hang on a wall.

A share of every booking goes to a rotating set of causes — among them the National Ability Center, Girls on the Run, Camp RAD, A Kids Center, Lyme disease research, and 1% for the Planet.
